"YOU FUCKIN' COCKNEYS"
Footballer Peter Crouch was spotted in the mosh pit on Saturday night as Kasabian played the second of two massive shows at London’s O2 Arena.
After beginning the two-night stint on Friday, the Leicester heroes opened the second show with a huge rendition of recent single ‘Ill Ray (The King), sparking a cluster of mosh-pits that spread across the front half of the arena floor like wildfire.
The riotous reception immediately continued for the call-to-arms sound of ‘Bumblebeee’, before it was followed with ‘Eez-Eh’ from 2014’s ’48:13′.
After ripping through the likes of ‘Shoot The Runner’ and ‘You’re In Love With a Psycho’, it was then time to slow things down – with guitarist Serge Pizzorno demanding a lighters-in-the-air singalong for ‘British Legion’, the 2006 track that he penned for wife Amy White.
The emotional interlude was immediately followed by the snarling sound of Club Foot, which ignited a furious circle pit and received some much deserved recognition from frontman Tom Meighan.
“You fuckin’ Cockneys, eh”, he commended the London crowd.
A performance of ‘Treat’ also saw Serge Pizzorno assume frontman duties as he highlighted one of the rarest sights of all – a Premier League legend in a moshpit.
The moment came as Pizzorno left the stage to greet the London faithful, immediately spotting Stoke City striker Peter Crouch on the edge of the crowd before drawing him in for a hug.
Another late highlight came in the form of recent album track ‘Put Your Life On It’, which saw Leicester’s DMU Gospel Choir joining the band to provide some arena-filling soul.
Concluding the main set with early favourite ‘L.S.F’, a three-track encore then followed in the form of ‘Comeback Kid’, Vlad The Impaler’, and customary closer ‘Fire’.
“Nights like this are why you start a band”, Pizzorno told the crowd after concluding the set.
“Start a fucking band. Start a fucking band.”
On the basis of Saturday’s showing, he’s not half wrong.
