Kasabian have revealed that they are in the early stages of writing a new album after picking up Best Live Artist supported by Nikon at the V05 NME Awards 2018 – with frontman Tom Meighan comparing guitarist Serge Pizzorno to Dr. Dre.

The Leicester band were in attendance at last night’s riotous ceremony at the O2 Academy Brixton (February 14) to receive their award, and, after revealing that the gong “meant so much” to the band, Kasabian then disclosed that they were already back in the studio working on new music.

Speaking to NME in the winners’ room, Serge and Meighan confirmed that plans were in motion for the follow-up to their 2017 album ‘For Crying Out Loud’.

“I think Dr. Sergio is working on new songs,” Meighan revealed, with Serge adding: “I’m Dr. Dre – we’re going in with Dr. Dre. We’re gonna be OK… it’s going great.”

Asked if the band would be trying anything new musically, Meighan revealed that he was yet to hear Serge’s latest work in the studio – but Serge maintained that it was “going great”.

Kasabian also claimed that they wouldn’t exist as a band were it not for Liam Gallagher, who picked up the Godlike Genius award at last night’s ceremony.
