Leicester lads Kasabian are Awards stalwarts. 2018 was no different.

Kasabian have talked about the influence of Liam Gallagher on their music, speaking at the VO5 NME Awards 2018.

The former Oasis frontman was awarded the Godlike Genius award at this year’s ceremony, and NME asked Kasabian how Liam had an impact on them.

“He means everything,” Serge said. “He’s amazing,” Tom agreed.

“There wouldn’t be us if it wasn’t for him. You need a two hour therapy session for how important that man was in my life.”

Serge went on to cite Liam’s Umbro tracksuit that he wore during Oasis’ Maine Road gig in 1996.

Serge then joked that he had slept with Gallagher before, adding that he was “too hairy”.

Asked about whether the band had been working on new music, Serge said: “It’s going great,” joking that they had been working with Dr Dre.

“I haven’t heard it so I can’t tell you,” Meighan said.

Kasabian were named the Best Live Artist supported by Nikon at the VO5 NME Awards 2018.

The Leicester band had a triumphant 2017, in which they headlined Reading & Leeds Festivals for the second time in support of their latest album, ‘For Crying Out Loud’.

The group also made a return to London’s The O2, where they played two sold out shows, along with a full UK arena tour and shows around the world.

Collecting the award, frontman Tom Meighan said: “Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. It means so much.”

Serge Pizzorno, meanwhile, paid tribute to small music venues, saying: “Keep fucking live venues alive. We love rock n roll.”
